Eleni Papaspyrou
Eleni Papaspyrou Eleni Papaspyrou was born in Athens in 1978. She studied piano with Dimitris Toufexis at Attikon Conservatory and Musicology at the University of Athens.
In 2004 she gained a Bachelor's Degree studying the piano with Otto Niederdorfer at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz (Austria). Two years later she completed her Masters with honors at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna studying with Peter Barcaba. She also attended courses of well renowned pianists including Th. Paraskivesko, S. Speidel, M. Crudelli, C. Graf and orchestras including Ensemble Modern and Klangforum Wien. During her studies she was given various scholarships from the Austrian Ministry for Education, Science and Culture. She was Finalist at the International Piano Competition in Salerno and winner of the Greek Competition for young pianists (X.O.N.). Eleni Papaspyrou has appeared in concerts given in not only Greece but also in Austria (Künstlerhaus Wien), Germany, Italy, Cyprus and Serbia. Eleni has also been an active chamber musician and accompanist of choirs, like the choir of the Music Department of the University of Athens. Further, she has worked as accompanist for members of Vienna Symphony Orchestra and for Festivals like Ost-West Musikfest. Due to her special interest in modern music, Eleni has taken part in projects like the performance and Cd-Recording of Erik Satie's Vexations (Minoritensaal Graz) and the performance and world premiere of contemporary music for solo piano or chamber music. After teaching the piano and working as accompanist for several years in Austria, Eleni Papaspyrou came to Crete, where she lives and teaches the piano - Music School of Heraklion and Apollon Conservatory. In 2007 she began studying for her PhD at the University of Thessaloniki under the supervision of the distinguished Greek pianist Vinia Tsopela. She is specializing in piano music of Greek composers.
